Abstract

Objective To investigate the application effect of indwelling needles in infusion for infants at clinics. Methods The indwelling needles were used for infusion in infants who needed continuous infusions twice daily for longer than 3 days, with poor venous condition, crying, irritation,or infusion duration ≥4 hours. Results The use of indwelling needles for infusion was 409 person/time,successful completion of course with indwelling needles was 381 person/time,and failure of indwelling was 28 person/time.No infections occurred. Conclusions In pediatric clinics, uses of indwelling needles for infusion in pediatric patients who meet the application standards can relieve the pain induced by repeated punctures, reduce swelling caused by infusion leaking in infants with restlessness.By strengthened management of risks, accidental needle removal, tube plugging, exudation, infection or nurse-patient disputes can be avoided. So it is a safe and effective method for infusion.
