Abstract

A general symbolic formalism for economically handling quadratically nonlinear systems is demonstrated by way of application to weakly nonlinear electron plasma waves in the 3-harmonic approximation. For the first time, it is shown that the nonlinear corrections depend on a certain additional assumption (constant velocity or constant current), and a symbolic formulation of boundary conditions is proposed. Further applications, such as to fusion plasmas, are envisaged.
