Abstract

Objective To investigate the application effect of operation preparation pathway in preoperative education for patients in general surgery department. Methods Purpose sampling methods was used in this study. Surgical patients admitted to the department of general surgery of First Hospital of Zibo from April to August 2015 were selected as the control group (n=695) , and they were given conventional preoperative instruction and education, while patients admitted from September to December 2015 were selected as the observation group (n=719) . Besides instruction and education implemented in the control group, the operation preparation pathway was also given to patients in the observation. Effect of preoperative education, anxiety level of patients at admission and before the operation, and patient satisfaction were compared between two groups. Results In the observation group, patients′ awareness rate of the bedside clinicians and primary nurses was 94.2%, while in the control group, it was 75.4% (χ2=97.239, P 0.05) . Before operation, the anxiety level of patients in the control group was increased with the SAS score (34.10±2.83) points, which was higher than that in the day of admission. The emotion of patients in the observation group was stable before the operation, with SAS score (30.25±2.97) , which was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05) . Patient satisfaction in the control group was (79.40±9.72) points, and its was lower than that in the observation group (92.10±5.50) (t=-11.379, P<0.01) . Conclusions The application of operation preparation pathway in preoperative education for patients hospitalized in the department of general surgery, can help to strengthen effect of preoperative education, improve efficiency of nursing work and raise satisfaction of patients and their relatives.
