Abstract

Dielectric resonator antennas (DRA) are highly suitable for applications in mobile and wireless communication systems owing to their many attractive features, such as high radiation efficiency, different available feeding mechanisms, flexibility over a large frequency range, light weight, small and compact size, and larger bandwidth capabilities. Recently, many investigations have been reported on DRA multi-frequency operations using some approaches, including loading additional structures (dielectric materials or metal stripes), or combining multiple resonators [1]-[4]. However, these approaches increase the size and the weight of DRAs and lead to complex fabrication process. To overcome this limitations, a novel structure for dielectric resonator antenna is proposed to achieve a dual frequency operation and to improve some antenna characteristics. The proposed antenna designs are described and measured results are presented.
