Abstract

Chasanah DI, Arianingrum R, Atun S. 2014. Antimutagenic activity of methanol extracts of galangal rhizome (Alpinia galanga) on erytrocyte cell in mice bone marrow in vivo. Bioteknologi 11: 36-43. The purpose of this research was to determine the percentage of antimutagenic activity of methanol extract of galangal rhizome (Alpinia galanga) on erythrocyte cell in mice bone marrow in vivo. The research was conducted by using the micronucleus test on male mice in the age of 6-7 weeks and the body weight between 33.4-34 grams. The treatment was conducted by giving the ginger extract in the doses of 300 and 600 mg/kg bw orally, inwhich as a negative control Na-CMC was given in a dose of 50 mg/kg bw by peroral and as a positive control cyclophosphamide was given in a dose of 50 mg/kg bw by intraperitoneal. The treatment was carried out for 2 days, then on the second day, 6 hours after the second cyclophosphamide treatment, all mice sacrificed by the neck dislocation and dissected to take the bone marrow from the femoral bone. The bone marrow smear preparation was made to observe the number of micronucleus polychromatic cells erythrocytes (MNPCE). The results showed that the methanol extract of ginger rhizome has an antimutagenic activity. It was shown by the percentage of decreasing MNPCE on smear preparation. The extract at a dose of 300 mg/kg bw was able to reduce the number of MNPCE 77.267%, while the extract at a dose of 600 mg/kg bw was able to reduce the amount of MNPCE 63.630% compared to a positive control.
