Abstract

In this present investigation, the in-vitro free radical scavenging activity, antimicrobial activity and phytochemical evaluation of ethoanol extracts of Ceiba pentandra leaves were performed. The phytochemical characterization of leaf extract was done by GC-MS analysis. The result of screening of extract showed the presence of nine bioactive components. Among these nine compounds, Hexadecanoic acid was fatty acids. Antibacterial activity was studied against bacterial strains like Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus sp, E. coli, and Klebsiella pneumonia Agar well diffusion method. Ethanol extract was found to highly active against E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus in dose dependent manner. In-vitro antioxidant activity of Ceiba leaf extract was evaluated via DPPH, nitric oxide and hydroxyl assay. The free radical scavenging activity of extracts was found to be great potential comparable with standard. IC50 was calculated for antioxidant activity of leaf extract against DPPH, nitric oxide and hydroxyl are 27.4, 24.45 and 51.65 μg/ml, respectively.
