Abstract

By use of a transient calorimetric technique, the total hemispherical emissivities ∊H of pure nickel and iron have been measured at various temperatures in the range of 400 to 1100 K. Maxima are observed in the ∊H vs temperature curves of these elements at their respective Curie temperatures. These are explained on the basis of the classical theory of electromagnetic-wave propagation in conductors.
