Abstract

The article describes the range of onomastic studies identified at the XX International Scientific Conference "Onomastics of the Volga Region", which took place October 5‒7, 2022 at the Kalmyk State University named after B.B. Gorodovikov with the assistance of the Russian Society of Teachers of the Russian Language and Literature. At the plenary and breakout sessions, reports were heard and discussed on the consideration of the theoretical and methodological aspects of onomastics (including the use of onomastic material in the educational process), modern problems of anthroponymy and ethnonymy, toponymy and microtoponymy; the study of urban onomastic space, literary and folklore onomastics, as well as onomastic periphery and appellative-onomastic borderland. For the first time, individual thematic blocks made reports that dealt with the issues of zoonymy, microtoponymy, theonymy and ethnonymy. As a result of the conference, the actual tasks of onomastics of the 21st century were identified, debatable issues and research prospects were identified.
