Abstract

Abstract The distribution of dioxouranium(VI) (uranyl) ions at low concentrations between Dowex-IX8-Cl and solutions of hydrogen chloride in methanol, ethanol and 2-propanol ( iso -propanol) was studied under nearly completely anhydrous conditions, and in the presence of 1% by volume of water. The results are consistent with the presence in the external solutions of UO 2 Cl + , UO 2 Cl 2 and ion-paired H + UO 2 Cl 3 − , and in the resin phase of UO 2 Cl 2 (not reacting with R + Cl − or H + Cl − ) as the main uranyl species.
