Abstract

This article aims to understand the importance of the writer/polemist Olavo de Carvalho within a framework of recent politics in the country. Our hypothesis is that their radical ideas found fertile soil, at a time when there are currently major problems involving the quality of democracy in our country. Our analysis is an initial qualitative investigation. Thus, through the theoretical contribution involving the terms accountability and political trust/distrust, we will see how there is an ambivalence of Carvalho, as a public figure with a certain level of influence, regarding his adherence to existing democratic institutions. In which there is an element of radical criticism directed at existing institutions in the country.
