Abstract
In the field of civil engineering, employing composite materials to reinforce reinforced concrete structures has become a highly common practice. However, this technology is not frequently used in pre-stressed concrete constructions. This study is dedicated to show the importance of reinforcing pre-stressed concrete beams with a plate made of pre-stressed composite materials by prposing an analytical model taking into account the time effect on concrete mechanical proporieties. The main finding demonstrate that by using a pre-stressed composite material plate the tension normal stresses across the cross the pre-stressed concrete beam section is reduced enhancing the global behavior of such structure.
