Abstract

One of the hopeful solutions to augment flexural behaviour of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) and prestressed concrete (PSC) is the addition of fibres. All the flexural parameters namely peak load, cracking load and crack propagation improve in the presence of fibers in the matrix. Cracks are bridged well when fibers are present in concrete. The present work, intends to evaluate the influence of steel and basalt fibers in the flexural parameters of RCC and PSC beams made of M40 grade concrete. Hardened concrete properties are evaluated by adopting the volume fractions 0.25%, 0.5% and 0.75%. Results proved that the steel and basalt fibers at 0.75% and 0.25% resulted in optimum values. These fiber volume fractions were used to cast PSC and RCC beams. Later their behaviour was compared in flexure.
