Abstract

The damage of power apparatus is caused mainly by the insulation problems initiated by the presence of partial discharge (PD) inside the insulation. PD measurement is one of the method to know the quality of the insulation of power apparatus. PD signal is displayed as PD waveform, PD pattern, and PD pulse sequences. This study discusses analysis of waveform of PD in oil insulation measured by RC detector. The electrode used is a needle-plate electrode with a distance of 1 cm. Background noise (BGN), PD inception voltage (PDIV) and PD waveforms were measured. The measurement result show that negative PDIV is 3.55 kV and positive PDIV is 4.01 kV. Negative and positive PD waveforms are measured at 16 kV, 16.5 kV, 17 kV, 17.5 kV and 18 kV. The rise time, fall time, and the peak to peak of PD waveforms at some voltage levels were analyzed.
