Abstract

The interlaminar shear strength of mica/epoxy layers was measured by the use of four test methods. It was found that the apparent shear strength is considerably influenced by additional stress (compressive or tensile) normal to the plane, and that the intrinsic shear strength may be determined by letting the compressive stress tend to zero. A newly proposed interlaminar shear test method (slant shear) is useful for determining the intrinsic interlaminar shear strength.
