Abstract

Objective To analyze the effect of the establishment of intravenous infusion quality monitoring group on the occurrence of mannitol-induced phlebitis. Methods Before and after the establishment of the intravenous infusion quality monitoring group (2011 and 2017), the occurrence and grading of phlebitis of patients using mannitol in the neurosurgery department of a Third-Grade A hospital were observed. The observation results in 2011 were taken as the baseline data before the establishment of the quality monitoring group, and the baseline data were compared with the observation results in 2017 after the establishment of the quality monitoring group. Results A total of 58 cases were observed before the establishment of intravenous infusion quality monitoring group (control group). A total of 59 cases were established after the establishment (observation group). The control group had 49 patients with varying degrees phlebitis, the incidence was 84.0%.There were 13 cases of gradeI, 25 cases of grade Ⅱ, 7 cases of grade Ⅲ and 4 cases of grade Ⅳ.In the observation group, 30 patients had phlebitis of varying degrees, with an incidence of 50.8%.There were 12 cases of grade Ⅰ, 13 cases of grade Ⅱ and 5 cases of grade Ⅲ.The incidence and grading of phlebitis were lower in the observation group than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the incidence and grade of mannitol phlebitis were lower in the observation group than in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusions After the establishment of the intravenous infusion quality monitoring group, the quality of intravenous infusion nursing was improved, the professional knowledge and skills of intravenous infusion nursing staff were improved, and the incidence of phlebitis caused by mannitol was reduced. Key words: Intravenous infusion; Quality monitoring group; Phlebitis; Mannitol
