Abstract

A computer programme has been developed to study pump start-up transients. Predictions of this programme have been verified experimentally. Parametric studies indicate that an increase in fluid inertia increases the acceleration head, while an increase in the moment of inertia of rotating parts decreases the acceleration head. Also for systems where the ratio of moment of inertia of rotating parts to fluid inertia is low, pump speed goes marginally beyond the steady speed during the start-up transient.
