Abstract
The issue of public procurement comes up from the very factthat in this process budgetary and other public funds are spent. This israther a significat amount of public funds - on the global level, publicprocurement reaches up to 12% of GDP and 29% of budget funds. Aseries of rules and regulations have to be applied, aiming to regulatepublic procurement procedures to make them transparent, efficient, and strictly formal and normatively regulated. Therefore, public bodiesare expected to effectively implement public procurement by applyingthe principle of ‘best value for money’ and with high standards ofethical and moral behavior. Croatia, like all countries in the world, faces a series of problems related to irregularity in public procurement, especially corruption as a general social problem. By becoming amember of the European Union, Croatia undertook to adapt itslegislation to the legislation of the European Union. The purpose ofthis paper is to present the effects of improving public procurementlegislation in Croatia by analysing available statistical data.
