Abstract
Objective: To analyze data and characteristics of births attended by nurses in a public maternity hospital and to evaluate the care provided by these nurses in habitual risk births. Methods: Cross-sectional, retrospective, with a quantitative approach, of the documentary type, carried out in a secondary database, the medical records of parturients who were admitted to a reference maternity hospital at high risk in the northern region of Santa, Catarina from January 1, 2020 to January 1, 2021. The final sample consisted of 440 women. Results: Non-pharmacological methods for pain relief were used in 96.6% of deliveries. Regarding the use of oxytocin, 48% of the parturients received the medication and 34.5% of the pregnant women did not receive interventions. The most performed delivery positions were lateralized, semi-verticalized and four supports. Skin-to-skin contact with the newborn occurred in 89.6% of the deliveries. Most newborns had Apgar ≥ 7 in the 1st and 5th minutes of life. Conclusion: The care provided by nurses is of quality and based on scientific evidence, which should be disseminated and encouraged.
