Abstract

The trilateration method of determining geodetic coordinates has become increasingly significant since the introduction of optic-electrical and electronic methods for the measurement of distances. The associated problem of computation and adjustment of trilateration nets has already received much attention, and the solution of large systems of equations does not present unsurmountable difficulties now that electronic computers are more readily available. Nevertheless, it is interesting—and not only for theoretical reasons—to investigate the possibilities of solving this problem using a mecahnical analogue computer based on the principle of elastic systems.
