Abstract
An inserted layer treatment for Lattice Boltzmann scheme is proposed to simulate the thermal conduction with thermal contact resistances (TCRs). The proposed method inserts TCR nodes at the imperfect contacting interfaces and constructs a continuous boundary condition between the inserted node and the adjacent contacting node to release the temperature discontinuities caused by TCRs. By utilizing the TCRs, volumetric heat capacities, and thermal conductivities directly in the LBM evolution equations following the standard treatment (Li et al., 2014), the proposed method intrinsically satisfies the resistance interface conditions without iterative computation nor approximate pre-processes. Benchmark studies with a wide range of thermal properties obtain results agreeing well with analytical and numerical results reported in the literature, and show high robustness and universality. The present method is applied to investigate the influence of TCRs caused by particles surface roughness on thermal performance of an actual packed bed structure obtained by X-ray tomography.
