Abstract

This study presents a simple auxiliary circuit to provide a soft-switching condition in the conventional buck converter without an additional active component. Advantages of the proposed structure can be summarized as decreased switching losses by structure operation under zero voltage switching (ZVS) conditions, declined reverse recovery losses of diodes by providing zero current switching (ZCS) turn off condition, and reduced the output current ripple to near zero. The proposed auxiliary circuit and its performance with the conventional buck converter have been analyzed in details. Also, the calculation of the proposed converter’s voltage gain and the design procedure of the components are presented. Eventually, simulation results are given to confirm the validity of the suggested converter and its theoretical analysis.
