Abstract
Thirty-one different mountants were tested against a list of preferred characteristics for the forensic examination of hair. Hystomount, DPX, DePeX and Styrolite were found to be suitable. It was not possible to recommend any one of these in preference to the others. Histoclear is a non-toxic solvent which dissolves most xylene-based mountants as effectively as xylene itself. The use of this product is recommended.
