Abstract

An automated system for assessing gait as a motor function is described. The system is composed of electronic footswitch devices, a triaxial accelerometer, and amplifier-power supply interface integrated with a PDP-12 computer. Data acquisition, data analysis, and validation procedures are discussed. Preliminary results of a study involving tibio-femoral knee implants demonstrates the applicability of the automated system to evaluation of motor performance during gait.
