Abstract

The IEEE SPI Workshop started in the late 1990s as an initiative from Prof. Mucha and his group from the University of Hannover, Germany. The first editions were organized in the small village of Travemunde, Germany, as focus workshops on “Signal Propagation on Interconnects” (the original meaning of the acronym SPI). At that time, characterization, modeling, simulation and testing of VLSI interconnects was not as well established as it is today, and various aspects were still requiring a joint research effort by leading personalities from academia and industry, in order to advance the state of the art and propose novel approaches to support development of the new technologies to come in the following years.
