Abstract

During a short excursion the algal vegetation of three saltmarshes along the Bristol Channel and two on the English south coast was investigated. The results are compared with data collected in Norfolk and in the Wadden area and show that the algal vegetation along the Bristol Channel is a typical estuarine one. The southern English marshes are rich in algal species and communities. Cladophora globulina (Kutz.) Kutz. is reported as new to the British marine flora.
