Abstract

Adenosarcoma of the uterus is characterized by a benign or atypical epithelial component and a sarcomatous stromal component, and most adenosarcomas are low malignant potential tumors. However, adenosarcoma with sarcomatous overgrowth (ASO), which exhibits focal overgrowth by a pure, often high-grade sarcoma has been reported. Frequently, ASOs are associated with recurrence or metastases and a fatal outcome. A case of ASO with rhabdomyosarcomatous differentiation is presented. A brief review of ASOs, including differential diagnosis and prognosis of adenosarcoma with and without sarcomatous overgrowth, is provided.
