Abstract

This paper investigates two kinds of head mounted display (HMD), binocular see-through HMD and monocular see-through see-around HMD, as the device for active visual feedback and the method for displaying feedback information on them. The objective task is to make a small-diameter hole onto an aluminum workpiece with a carbide drill and the feedback information is cutting force. As the results, the monocular HMD with sector chart display method has been superior to the others in operating efficiency. The active visual feedback methods with the sector chart and circle chart are effective in improvement of operating efficiency. The monocular see-through see-around HMD is superior to the binocular see-through HMD. As the feedback information, the envelope of torque signal is superior to the thrust.
