Abstract

The ion balances of 73 small lakes with forested catchments were calculated using the main cations and the inorganic anions. A clear cation excess was observed in polyhumic lakes. However, taking into account the estimated acidic organic anion concentrations the ion ratios appeared to be balanced. In addition, strong and weak acids were analyzed in 26 of the lakes using the coulometric Gran titration.
