Abstract

The so called inhibition of Ps formation in aqueous solutions of NO 3 −, Cl − and Cd 2+ ions was investigated at several solute concentrations C as a function of the temperature between 5 and 45°C. The aim of this investigation was to ascertain whether: (1) the inhibition constant K for No 3 − ions and (2) the o-Ps intensity for C → ∞, I(∞), in NO 3 − Cl − and Cd 2+ ion solutions are dependent on temperature. It was found that both K and I(∞) are independent of temperature as suggested by the Ore gap plus hot reaction model for the Ps formation and inhibition. These results are also briefly discussed on the bases of the spur model for the Ps formation.
