Abstract

Received Feb 2016 Received in revised May 2016 Published in June 2016 In this research, eight bronze and iron weapons discovered from Jafar-Abad and Tu AliSofla kurgans in the first and second phases of excavations near Aras River in KhodaAfarin town, northwest of Iran were research. These kurgans belong to combatant and migrating Eurasian tribes. In the first and second phases, fifty four and one hundred three metal objects were discovered, respectively. Amongst these objects, eight objects were metal weapons including a bronze dagger, a bronze bayonet, an iron bayonet, and an iron knife, belonging to the first phase, and four bronze arrow heads belonging to the second phase of excavations. Using relative dating, it was concluded that the discovered objects date back to Iron Age II. Investigation on the discovered armaments revealed the combative characteristics of these tribes, existence of a social classification system in these tribes, and a common belief in the resurrection of the dead.
