Abstract

A versatile high-magnification Kerr magnetooptic microscope and measuring system has been developed from a design based on a single objective lens. An analogue-to-digital signal recovery system enables measurements of surface magnetisation levels to be obtained at high magnification on well defined areas of less than 4 mu m*4 mu m on optically imperfect surfaces. Use of the equipment in the transverse, polar or longitudinal mode is possible and its application to dynamic magnetisation measurements (for example in bubble domain propagation elements) and static domain wall structures is described.
