Abstract

Editor's note: Many people believe that for rural education to adapt to the needs of the development of the commodity economy in the countryside it must switch from pure general education to vocational and technical education, which has as its primary goal the nurturing of able people who would be useful in the countryside. The following article proposes, however, that the above viewpoint fails to take into account the restrictive effect of certain factors in the retracking, and ignores the enhancement of human qualities and the goal of nurturing people's potential for long-term development. The article sees the above viewpoint as a short-term behavioral pattern concerned only with immediate interests, and believes it could lead to a delay or stagnation in the development of education in the countryside as a whole. Whether such an understanding is reasonable is up to all of us to discuss and study; and we welcome such discussion.
