Abstract

After the opening of a Korea-Japan public culture, the film area, including a Korean-Japanese-made film and an exchange of various parts of the film is also opened and being absorbed naturally.<BR> In this study, we are going to investigate the design case of film poster that released both in Korea and Japan. From the appealing image of the two countries’ same film but different film poster, we are trying to compare and analyze expressional elements of design by film genre. So in order to contribute to the development of film poster design that can be communicate to the audience. Depends on the result of comparative analysis of Korea-Japan film poster for Korean film, Korean film posters are focused on main character’s photograph for every film genre. However, Japanese film posters are not focused on main characters but expressing main visual images that based on film scenario. Furthermore, in the lyrical genre of Korean drama or comedy film, bright and warm colors are dominant color. In the case of Japanese drama, they used white color as background of poster. In the Japanese comedy film, they used more primary color and stronger images than Korea. In the case of action, adventure, and war genre from both in Korea and Japan, Korea used a similar layout and color for all three different genres. However, in Japan, they used various designs for each genre. Which means that Korea produced model based commercial posters without any distinction of film genre. But unlike the representation of Korean film poster, Japanese film poster has various design expression in each genre.<BR> Therefore, Korean film poster design production should be more various and original for the future. And also need to develop poster design expression that implied contents. From this design analysis, we expect the development of diverse expression of Korea-Japan film poster.
