Abstract

Summary The formation of titanium trichloride in the reaction of TiCl4 with organo-aluminium compounds has been studied under conditions which make it possible to divide this complex process into several steps. Some of these steps have been stydied by p. m. r., e. s. r., calorimetry, gas chromatography and X-ray analysis. On the basis of these data the scheme of formation of different crystalline forms of titanium trichloride has been proposed. The surface area of the catalysts has been evaluated from the data on the size of primary crystallites. The influence of the preparation conditions and catalyst composition on its dispersion has been studied.
