Abstract

The paper, taking the traditional Cantonese opera Li the Later Ruler as data, investigates the ideational meaning transference and functional equivalence between the poetic features of the source text and the target text of Qu Tunes by means of close reading the texts and contrastive linguistics. It aims at finding out the approaches to functional equivalence between the source text and the target text in the hope of disseminating this unique musical art throughout the world.
