Abstract

As General Manager of the Victorian Division of the Australian Design Council the author is involved in the Council's Australian Design Award program. This paper describes the program's role in promoting ergonomics in product design. The product assessment process involves a design audit conducted by an expert panel which generates a product assessment report for the client. The audit has in many instances led to redevelopment of the product with an emphasis on ergonomics. Case studies are used to demonstrate the effectiveness and practical limitations of the program.
