Abstract
IN RECENT years, the vestibular apparatus and its central connections have attracted much interest by anatomists, physiologists, and clinicians. In part, it appears due to the importance of vestibular function in manned space flights. Most of the new knowledge has come from research on animals, especially as regards the vestibular nuclei, their connections and functions. Although it appears to be generally true that in principle conditions are similar in man and the experimental animals employed, on many points actual proof is still lacking. There are only few reports on the connections of the vestibular nuclei in man, and most of them are rather old. This justifies the publication of the present case study, undertaken in order to investigate a special question: Is the vestibulospinal projection in man somatotopically organized as it has been shown to be in the cat?
