Abstract

We present an alternative explanation of near-field and far-field diffraction, i.e., the Talbot effect and single- and double-slit experiments, with the same expressions. Our method is based on the superposition of waves with different path lengths. A simple experiment is conducted as a demonstration. This simple experiment exhibits the transition from near-field to far-field diffraction.
