Abstract

Although autoclaving is a rapid, effective method of sterilization, the resulting corrosion of certain dental instruments during the autoclave cycle has contra-indicated its routine use for all equipment. An oil-in-water emulsion containing sodium benzoate has been developed for precoating instruments prior to autoclaving so as to prevent corrosion. The procedure has been found to be practical, effective and efficient.
