Abstract

Pavement Management Systems (PMS) are increasingly important tools for helping in decision making processes regarding the maintenance and rehabilitation of road pavements. This paper presents a new mixed-integer optimization model to be used within a PMS. The model allows segment linked decisions, thus overcoming the principal drawback of the widely used Arizona PMS. The application of the model is illustrated with a case study developed for the ring road of Coimbra, the third largest Portuguese city.
