Abstract

Plastic Waste has a need of recycling from its non degradable behaviour and over disposition, which can lead to the release of hazardous gases into the atmosphere. To improve the sustainability and to reduce depletion of natural resources, plastic waste is adopted in many fields like construction, infrastructure, architecture, tiles and coatings etc. A common building material is concrete, and as the world's population grows, so does the need for it. Stating the above scenario, natural resources like sand, gravel and other constituents of concrete are depleting gradually. To overcome the situation, constituents are usually replaced by solid waste available in the nature. Self compacting concrete (SCC) is used in structures that has closely packed reinforcement, where any mechanical means of vibration for compaction cannot be adopted and in improving the strength of the structure. In this paper, most recent literature on various types of recycled plastic replaced waste and its influence on the mechanical behaviour of self compacting concrete were reviewed. The purpose of this review was to examine the academic and practical relationships between several mechanical parameters. This concrete with plastic aggregate can give a sustainable concrete to reduce the adverse effects of plastic waste on environment.
