Abstract

In an earlier paper, (1)†, the characteristics such as slip, depth of slip, and stiffness, of a shrink-fitted assembly loaded in torsion were obtained on the basis of shrinkage pressures which were assumed to be constant along the contact interface. This short paper investigates, in more detail, the shrinkage-pressures close to the end-point of contact and uses these pressure-values to refine the calculation of depth-of-slip in a shrink-fitted assembly loaded in torsion. It is shown that the refinement has an appreciable effect on the depth of slip and, therefore, on the other torsional characteristics.
