Abstract

Abstract We consider a time-varying cyclic hamiltonian, γ· R (t) , which is a simple generalisation of H=σ· R (t) originally considered by Berry, and obtain a non-abelian realization of the magnetic monopole gauge field similar to the one one finds in the hamiltonian for nuclear rotation in the presence of a diatom. Finally, following Jackiw, we also obtain an expression for the conserved angular momentum of the system.
