Abstract

Objective To explore the experience of workplace violence (WPV) management among student nurses. Methods By purposive and snowball sampling method, the student nurses in Shanghai from May to June of 2018 were interviewed by semi-structured interviews and data were analyzed by Colaizzi's method. Results Four themes were extracted: lack of violence cognition, lack of violence prevention awareness, lack of violence dealing ability, and lack of psychological adjustment ability after violent incidents. Conclusions Based on the hospitals' organizational environment and the role characteristics of student nurses, nursing educators should strengthen the training from the aspects of violence prevention, dealing and after-the-event recovery for the student nurses, so as to improve their WPV management competence.
