Abstract
Interpretations of the climates of regions were not uncommon during the first half of the Twentieth Century. The intent and scope of the published studies ranged from popular notions about the weather of a region, to scholarly monographs of regional climatic dynamics, to assemblages of useful climatic statistics. Examples culled mostly from geographical literature are sampled. This review closes with mention of 6 regional climate centers that have been established recently, primarily to monitor and assess regional climatic variability and change, and their environmental and economic impacts in the United States. [Key words: history of climatology, climates of regions, regional climate centers, climate monitoring.]
