Abstract

Tiie sensitivity of strain histories to several rate-dependent and rate-independent constitutive models are studied using a finite difference technique. This investigation of plastic wave propagation in a semi-infinite rod is similar to an earlier attempt to study this problem by Ripperger and Watson, except with a major difference that finite amplitude waves are also included here. The differences in strain profiles are found to increase dramatically from infinitesimal to finite dynamic plastic deformation.
