Abstract
Abstract The sensitivities of strain histories to several rate-dependent and rate-independent constitutive models are studied, using a finite difference technique. This investigation of plastic wave propagation in a semi-infinite rod is similar to an earlier attempt to study this problem by Ripperger and Watson, except with one major difference: here, large amplitude waves also are included. The differences in strain profiles are found to increase dramatically from small to large dynamic plastic deformation.
