Abstract

Abstract A new three-dimensional (3D) silver(I) metal–organic framework (MOF) formulated as [Ag(sub)0.5(bpp)]n·5nH2O (1) was prepared by the ultrasonic reaction of Ag2O with H2sub (H2sub = suberic acid) in the presence of dipyridyl-containing ligand bpp (bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane) and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Topologically, when argentophilic interactions are taken into account, the resultant 3D Ag(I) MOF can alternatively be simplified to the irl (42 · 63 · 8) topology. A self-assembled T5(0)A(2) water tape is confined in the channel of the framework and has been analyzed in comparison with known 1D water tapes constructed from pentameric water clusters. Moreover, photoluminescence property of 1 was investigated.
