Abstract
A new preionization technique for high repetition rate pulsed gaseous lasers to be used in a number of scientific and industrial applications is presented. Performance of a 1 kHz CO2 laser which emploies this technique is reported, and the importance of this new method for the realization of durable, compact and inexpensive devices is discussed.
