Abstract

Simple linear profiles (SLPs) are modeled by linear functional relationship between a response variable and an explanatory variable. A number of process capability indices (PCIs) for SLPs with symmetric tolerances have been proposed. However, PCIs for SLPs with asymmetric tolerances have received little attention. This article proposes a new functional incapability index for dealing with asymmetric tolerances. To demonstrate the improved performance of the new index, numerical examples and simulation studies are used to compare it to existing functional PCIs. Bootstrap confidence intervals for the proposed index are also obtained. Two examples illustrate the applicability of the proposed index.
